Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about the Hart Family Medicine experience. Because healthcare needed a rebrand.
Whether you're curious about insurance-free care, after-hours access, or our curated approach to aesthetics, you’ll find those answers here. I believe the best care is built on trust and clarity; if your question isn't covered, scheduling a complimentary meet & greet is just a click away.
The DPC Philosophy
Understanding the model, the "micropractice" difference, and why this isn't your average clinic
-
Think of DPC as healthcare, but done differently. It’s a membership model that cuts out the insurance middleman so I can actually focus on you. No rushing, no checkboxes; just real, personal care. I take care of a smaller group of families, which means appointments that actually feel like appointments, time to dig into what matters, and a plan that’s built around your life. Basically, it’s healthcare that finally makes sense. While we do not take insurance, our membership is open to everyone, regardless of whether you have insurance or not.
-
Not quite. Traditional concierge practices charge a hefty annual fee and still bill your insurance, often leaving out patients who are between coverage or under-insured. Hart Family Medicine is different. You pay one simple monthly membership with no copays, no surprise bills, and no insurance hoops. Just care that’s personal, accessible, and actually works for your life.
-
It’s a very intentional choice. Hart Family Medicine is not only a Direct Primary Care practice, but it’s also a micropractice. While a typical doctor in the traditional system manages a list of around 1,500 to 2,500 patients, and even many DPC doctors carry between 300-800, I’ve chosen to keep my patient family much smaller.
This allows me to fulfill my two greatest roles in life: being fully present for my own family and providing truly exceptional, deeply personalized care for yours. Because I’m not juggling thousands of files, I don’t have to spend our visit shuffling through a chart to remember your history. When you walk through the door, I’ll know exactly who you are and where we left off. You aren't just a number on a schedule; you’re a person I’ve cleared my day to actually listen to.
-
Totally fair question. Most of us are used to a system where "having insurance" is the same thing as "having care," but the reality is often a lot of waiting rooms, 15-minute appointments, and confusing bills.
Think about it:
Can you easily reach your doctor with a quick question? When you’re sick, can you get in the same or next day, or are you heading to urgent care to see someone new? Do you ever leave an appointment feeling like you actually had enough time?Hart Family Medicine was designed for people who want more than “fine.” By stepping outside of the insurance model, I’m able to offer a level of access, time, and connection that just isn’t possible in a traditional setting.
Coverage & Costs
The details on insurance, HSA/FSA, specialist referrals, and transparent pricing.
-
Yes. Let’s think of your health insurance like car insurance. It’s there for the accidents and the big stuff (specialists, hospitals, and ERs). For everything else, our membership actually saves you money:
Prescriptions: These are still covered by your insurance plan just like always. (And if you don’t have insurance, I’ll help you find the absolute best cash price.)
Labs & Imaging: You can use your insurance, OR you can use our direct pay rates. Because we’ve negotiated directly with labs and imaging centers, our cash prices are often cheaper than your typical insurance co-pay. Crazy, right?
Transparency: You will always know the price of a test before it’s ordered. No "surprise" bills in the mail three months later.
By removing the red tape, we bring the cost of primary care down and the quality of your experience way up.
-
You are absolutely welcome at Hart Family Medicine. We can care for you regardless of your insurance status and are happy to help you find the most affordable self-pay options for things like labs and imaging. We do recommend having some form of catastrophic coverage for the "what ifs," but for your day-to-day health, we are here for you no matter your situation.
-
I get it. Honestly, I’m right there with you. Between the general cost of living and insurance premiums, one more monthly charge is the last thing any of us wants to add to our bank statement.
Putting it in Perspective
It’s easy to justify a $100 Target run or a last-minute DoorDash order when life gets busy (guilty!), but we often hesitate to invest that same amount into our own long-term wellness. However, when you look at the traditional healthcare system, one single ER visit or Urgent Care trip can easily cost more than an entire year of membership here.
A Different Way of Thinking
By having a personal connection to your doctor, you aren't just avoiding surprise bills, you're avoiding the stress of navigating a broken system alone. Many DPC patients pair their memberships with a high-deductible plan or a health-sharing ministry to cover the "big what-ifs." This allows you to stop paying for a system you can’t access and start investing in a doctor who is actually in your corner. This isn't just another bill; it’s making sure that when you or your family need care, the door is already open.
-
If you need specialized care, I am right there with you to navigate the process. I will coordinate your referral to a specialist within your insurance network, and they will bill your insurance just as they would in a traditional practice.
The "High-Touch" Difference
In a typical high-volume clinic, referrals can often feel like they’ve disappeared into a void. You might wait weeks for a call that never comes, or show up to a specialist who has almost no context on why you’re there. Because I maintain a smaller practice, I have the time to handle referrals differently; ensuring that your clinical story follows you and that no part of your care falls through the cracks.
*If you have an HMO plan, there are sometimes additional steps required by your insurance company to process a referral. If that's the case for you, don’t worry, we will navigate those requirements together. Because I maintain a smaller practice, I have the time to personally oversee these details and ensure you get the specialized care you need without the usual headache.
The Patient Experience
Life as an HFM member: Telehealth, after-hours access, and how we stay connected.
-
Yep, pretty much (within reason). One of the best parts of this model is having a direct line to your doctor, so you can message or call with questions. If it’s an actual emergency, I’ll get back to you right away. If it’s something like asking my favorite non-toxic candle brand while I’m reading a bedtime story to my toddler, I’ll probably wait until business hours to respond. Either way, you’ll get thoughtful, timely answers and the kind of real connection that keeps you out of urgent care, reduces stress, and makes your care feel personal. Trust me, it’s worth it.
-
Honestly? Because being "disease-free" isn't the same thing as thriving. Traditional medicine is reactive. It’s designed to wait until you’re sick to step in. At Hart Family Medicine, we focus on proactive health. I’ll look at your nutrition, your lifestyle, and your long-term goals to optimize your wellness before a problem even starts. Think of it as having a health advocate on speed dial. Life is unpredictable. When your child wakes up with a fever or you have a health question after hours, you shouldn't have to choose between a five-hour wait at Urgent Care or a confusing "nurse line." You just message me, and we handle it together.
-
Absolutely. Many needs, from reviewing lab results to adjusting a treatment plan, can be handled seamlessly via a virtual visit. Whether you’re squeezing in a quick check-in during your lunch break or navigating a hectic morning at home with the kids, we can connect through a secure video platform to save you the trip.
While I love the convenience of telehealth, there are still times when I’ll need to see you in person for a physical exam or certain diagnostic tests. My goal is always to provide the highest quality of care in the way that makes the most sense for your life and your schedule.
-
For true medical emergencies, please call 911 or head to the nearest ER. For everything else, one of the primary benefits of this model is that you have a personal connection to your physician. Here is how we handle communication:
During Office Hours: When I am in the clinic, my focus is entirely on the person in front of me. Because I don't rush through appointments, I may not reply the second you hit send, but I am committed to getting back to you in a timely manner (usually within a few hours) once I’ve stepped out of a room.
Evenings & Weekends: I typically reserve this time for my family. You are always welcome to send a message when it's on your mind so you don't forget, it won't bother me at all! I simply respond to non-urgent matters once the office reopens.
The "Human" Reality: As an ENFJ and a "Type 1," I have a natural drive to help and, honestly, a really hard time turning off the "doctor" brain. If I happen to be waiting in line at the grocery store or have a rare lull in the evening (with a toddler IYKYK), you might get a quick reply! But if I’m at my son’s evening soccer game or in the middle of an early Pilates class, it will have to wait until business hours.
Why this matters: I believe in being fully present in the moment; whether that’s in the exam room with you, at the dinner table with my family, or taking a moment for my own mental and physical health. This "unplugged" time is exactly what allows me to show up as my best, most focused self when it’s your turn for care.
Upon enrollment, we’ll walk through the best practices for reaching out so you always know exactly what to do when a concern pops up.
Aesthetics & Eligibility
Details on our services, the physician-led difference, and important enrollment disclaimers.
-
For primary care, I only work with patients through our membership model, though it’s important to know that you’re never "locked in" and can cancel with 30 days notice.
For Aesthetics: If you aren’t a member but are interested in aesthetic treatments, you are welcome to book those as individual sessions without a membership. Although a perk of being a member is receiving 10% off all treatments!
-
While I love caring for growing families, I do not offer obstetric or prenatal care at this time. However, I’m happy to care for you before your journey begins and once your little one has arrived!
Due to federal regulations, we cannot currently accept members who are beneficiaries of Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, or VA health programs.

I am a doctor completing my family medicine residency, the final stage of my medical training (although in medicine, the learning truly never stops). This means I am continuing to deepen my medical knowledge and refine my clinical skills while actively practicing medicine. Hart Family Medicine is intentionally designed as a boutique micropractice, allowing me to keep a very small patient panel (and even smaller while I complete my training). This is a benefit to you; fewer patients means more time, accessibility, and truly personalized care. My work with HFM is completely independent of my residency. Here, my focus is simple: thoughtful, thorough care without the time constraints of a traditional clinic. Although I do intend for HFM to grow after residency, I plan to maintain this micropractice model because I believe the best care happens when your doctor has the time to truly listen, think, and show up fully for you.
-
Nope! HFM aesthetic services (currently including injectables and Microneedling) are open to everyone. I know how important it is to feel confident in the person behind the needle. Because I am a medical practice first, my approach is rooted in a deep understanding of anatomy and clinical safety. You get the benefit of a physician’s expertise and high-level medical precision, whether you are a full-time member of my practice or just stopping in for a refresh.
Member Perk: While a membership is never required for aesthetics, HFM members do receive 10% off all aesthetic treatments!
